Role Description
Our Global Business Group at Nova is looking for a Field Service Engineer who is a self-starter, has a positive attitude, is a team player, and can support our systems at the customer site in a professional manner. The FSE will perform engineering and technical activities, while utilizing company’s R&D teams to direct technology development of new products.
Pay Range: $82,000- $115,000 Annually (DOE)

Responsibilities
- Perform installation, setup, calibration, and upgrades of optical and vacuum systems at customer facilities.
- Support new equipment installations, add-ons, and system enhancements in accordance with Nova’s warranty and service agreements.
- Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure optimal system performance.
- Provide on-site technical support and troubleshooting for mechanical, electrical, and first-level software issues.
- Repair system parts and components following approved service policies and procedures.
- Ensure spare systems, parts, and tooling are properly stored, tracked, and readily available.
- Deliver customer training and retraining on equipment operation, maintenance, and best practices.
- Maintain and elevate technical knowledge among customer users.
- Provide polite, professional, and respectful communication at all times.
- Prepare detailed service reports, technical documentation, and maintenance records.
- Provide routine reports to customers and Nova management regarding system health, activities, and milestones.
- Conduct customer meetings and presentations (daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly) on tool performance, fleet status, and key operational metrics.
- Work closely with engineering, R&D, sales, and customer support teams to resolve complex issues and enhance product reliability.
- Support sales activities through on-site evaluations, technical insights, and customer feedback.
- Adhere to all customer site safety requirements, cleanroom protocols, and performance guidelines.
- Maintain full confidentiality of customer and Nova proprietary information.
- Travel domestically and internationally (10–30%) to perform installations, support activities, and technical service.
Requirements
Must have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Electronics, or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- 3–5+ years of field service experience in the semiconductor industry.
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with proven independent troubleshooting abilities.
- Solid knowledge of vacuum technology, optics, lasers, and semiconductor process tools.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and first-level software issues.
- Experience working in cleanroom environments and familiarity with semiconductor fabrication processes.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently under pressure.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a customer-focused mindset.
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally (10–30%).
Nice to Have:
- Experience working with multi-discipline semiconductor metrology equipment.
- Knowledge of integration protocols and equipment communication interfaces such as SECS/HSMS.
- Experience with data analysis, reporting tools, and system performance metrics.
- Background in optical alignment, laser diagnostics, and vacuum subsystem calibration.
- Familiarity with safety standards and compliance requirements for high-vacuum, RF, optical, and high-voltage systems.
- Additional certifications or specialized training in vacuum technology, optics, laser safety, or semiconductor equipment maintenance.
