Role Description
Our Global Business Group at Nova is looking for a Field Service Engineer who is a self-starter, has a positive attitude, is a team player, and can support our systems at the customer site in a professional manner. The FSE will perform engineering and technical activities, while utilizing company’s R&D teams to direct technology development of new products.
Pay Range: $82,000- $115,000 Annually (DOE)

Responsibilities
- Perform installation, setup, calibration, and upgrades of optical and vacuum systems at customer facilities.
- Assist with new equipment installations, add-ons, and system enhancements in line with Nova’s warranty and service agreements.
- Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure reliable system performance.
- Provide on-site technical support and troubleshooting for mechanical, electrical, and software issues.
- Repair system parts and components according to general service policies.
- Ensure spare systems and parts are stored properly and readily available when needed.
- Deliver customer training and retraining on equipment operation, maintenance, and best practices.
- Maintain an adequate level of technical knowledge among customer users.
- Prepare detailed service reports, technical documentation, and maintenance records.
- Provide regular reports to customers and Nova management on service activities and system status.
- Customer Meetings, Updates, and Presentations: Deliver regular updates to customers on a daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis. Responsibilities include preparing and presenting performance reports, tool and fleet status updates, and other key materials. This requires strong communication skills and the ability to confidently present to both internal stakeholders and customer representatives, including senior management.
- Manage Nova’s spare parts inventory at assigned locations and assist in setting stock policies.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, R&D, customer support, and sales teams to resolve technical issues and improve product reliability.
- Support sales efforts through on-site evaluations, technical advice, and customer feedback.
- Adhere to customer site safety, performance, and behavior policies at all times.
- Maintain confidentiality of all customer and Nova proprietary information.
- Communicate with customers politely, cordially, and respectfully.
- Travel domestically and internationally to customer sites as required to perform service and support duties.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Electronics, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
- 3–5+ years of field service experience in the semiconductor industry, preferably with optical and vacuum systems.
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with proven independent troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, and first-level software issues.
- Solid knowledge of vacuum technology, optics, lasers, and semiconductor process tools.
- Experience working with multi-discipline semiconductor metrology equipment is preferred.
- Working knowledge of integration with various equipment platforms and communication protocols such as SECS/HSMS.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently under pressure.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a customer-focused mindset.
- Familiarity with cleanroom environments and semiconductor fabrication processes is a plus.
- Understanding of safety standards and compliance related to high-vacuum and optical equipment handling.
- Experience with data analysis and reporting tools is desirable.
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 10–30%.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
