Role Description

Nova’s Optics Group is looking for a Senior Optical Engineer to lead a range of development activities involving critical modules in our advanced, multidisciplinary metrology systems. This is an opportunity to shape optical concepts from early feasibility through final design and qualification, and to translate deep scientific understanding into state-of-the-art system performance.

You’ll be joining the Optics Group

  • Own the complete optical path of Nova’s tools—from light sources, through optical channels, to sensors.
  • Work with diverse, high-end technologies spanning multiple optics disciplines to deliver state-of-the-art system-level performance.
  • Contribute across the full development lifecycle, from concept and feasibility through final design and qualification.
  • Operate in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment, managing research, design, and engineering activities in parallel.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze complex physical effects that influence tool performance.
  • Design the optical architecture and configuration of Nova’s tools.
  • Develop new optical concepts and translate them into practical system solutions.
  • Lead feasibility studies for new concepts and configurations.
  • Define rigorous test plans and design the required experimental setups.
  • Verify results both off-tool and on-tool, ensuring alignment with system-level requirements.
  • Select vendors and provide ongoing technical leadership and management.

Requirements

  • MSc or PhD in Physics or Optical Engineering.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience developing and characterizing complex systems that include light sources, optical systems, and imaging; an advantage for PhD graduates.
  • Experience designing optical or electro-optical systems.
  • Experience designing and implementing laboratory setups to measure optical effects and performance.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB and/or Python; Python is preferred.
  • Knowledge of optical design software such as Zemax or Code V—an advantage.
  • Image-processing skills—an advantage.
  • Experience with semiconductor-industry equipment—an advantage.

The special something you bring with you

  • Strong problem-solving and debugging capabilities, with the ability to move confidently between scientific analysis and hands-on experimentation.
  • An independent, motivated, and collaborative mindset, with genuine enthusiasm for breakthroughs and advanced technology.
