What we are looking for

The China Application department at Nova is looking for an application engineer to support our business and drive its growth. As an Applications Engineer for Sentronics Metrology (a Nova company) products, you will play a key role in implementing and optimizing advanced optical metrology systems for international semiconductor customers.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams and customers worldwide, perform feasibility studies, create measurement programs, and support system acceptance testing. Your expertise will ensure that Nova’s solutions deliver real value and meet the highest standards of performance and precision.

You will also conduct customer-specific training and present application-focused content to support successful system use. All this is done in close alignment with the HQ experts from Mannheim and the global Applications team.

Responsibilities

What you will be doing

  • Complete on-site equipment installation and sample testing.
  • Conduct recipe tuning and application troubleshooting under warranty.
  • Maintain demo equipment and host client on-site visits.
  • Leans heavily toward application & process development work, while equipment installation service only accounts for a minor share of daily tasks (distinct from pure after-sales service positions).
  • Frequent on-site customer communication and timely response to all client inquiries are required.
  • Plan and control the use of optical sensors and software to accurately measure parameters in semiconductor manufacturing.
  • Conduct feasibility studies for customers in close collaboration with Nova’s global teams.
  • Validate measurement programs for optical metrology systems and introduce them to HVM.
  • Perform system acceptance tests at customer sites and ensure proper functionality.
  • Support the service team and provide training for customers, both on-site and remotely.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Physics or mechanical, electrical engineering, optical hardware, and process tuning. Outstanding bachelor’s degree in physics is preferred.
  • Initial postdoctoral or industry experience preferred
  • Possess solid hands-on capabilities and good communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel about 75%-80%.
  • Able to withstand work pressure, adapt to frequent long-term travel, and maintain prompt responsiveness to clients
  • Experience in metrology, optics, semiconductors, or sensor technology is a plus.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with a professional and confident presence.
  • Excellent skills in Excel and PowerPoint; experience with MATLAB, Octave, Python, or similar programming tools is preferred.
  • Fluent English, spoken and written.
